27/08/07  Africa Preliminary World Cup qualifiers announced - African World Cup qualifiers begin on October 13th when the 10 lowest ranked nations compete in a knock out tournament to trim competing nations down to 48 for the first round proper. Follow all the African World Cup qualifiers here

9/08/07 Oceania World Cup qualifying draw announced - Qualification for the 2010 World Cup in Oceania begins on 25th August at the South Pacific Games football tournament. The three medallists join New Zealand in the second phase.

6/08/07  Asian qualifying format announced - The first round draw has been completed and the format for Asia 2010 World Cup qualifying has been decided. The Asian continent will receive 4.5 berths in the finals and the first round of qualifiers gets underway on October 8th 2007. For a full rundown of Asian World Cup qualifying click here

24/06/07  European qualifying format announced - European football chief Michel Platini announced today that the European qualifying format will consist of eight groups of six teams and one group of five teams. The winners of each group will qualify automatically with the eight best runners up playing home and away play-off matches to determine the other four places. A total of 13 teams will qualify from Europe. Follow qualifying fixtures and results in Europe here

15/02/07  South America World Cup qualifying format decided - FIFA have announced the qualifying format in South America will be the same as in previous World Cup qualification tournaments.
